Darrell,
you may not have gotten a response from Dianne, as their computer has been in the shop. Dianne is my cousin's daughter and we are all doing the same research. I wish I could tell you that your John Mell and ours, were the same. We have some conflicting stories. One place we have John coming from Germany, and possibly the name being originally MEHL. One place from Pa. We do have census records from1860 Campbell Co. Kentucky where it lists his birthplace as Virginia and another from1880 Iroquoise co. Illinois which lists Va., also. We know he was born in 1814. There are listing on couple of pages over in the census books for a William Mell. John married a Catherine Wykoff from Ohio and their first 4 children were born in Ohio. who was 5 yrs. younger and born in Ohio. John Mell had a son named Wiliam. Do any of these names sound familiar as they are his children's names and sometimes they carried down in the families?
Louisa, Alice, William, Garrett, John Jr. Margaret, Roda Catherine, Mary Jane, Robert, Joseph, Sydney (female) Thomas, Lafayette. there is a grandson named Charles, who John raised for a while. Anything sound familiar please contact me and I will relay to Dianne.
