Julie.. I have just discovered the Mell name in my family tree. I have nothing really to go on yet but do know my Louisa Mell married Wilhelm Foertmeyer. They lived in Hanover, Germany in the late 1700's and early 1800's. Not much to go on but it might give you a starting place. Wilhelm's father, name unknown, served as a lietenant of artillary in the battle of Dettingen in Germany in 1743 based on family oral tradition and one writte account I found about it. The Hanoverians fought with the British and defeated the French. So I'm pretty convinced they were of Hanover.
