Hello. My great grandmother was a Melendez. I am almost certain that the last name Melendez is from the Spanish Province of Galicia. I believe that the Melendez in my family emigrated from The Canary Islands as many people emigrated from the Iberian Peninsula to The Canary Islands at about the same time Columbus was conquering PR and other places.
