thank you very much for taking the trouble to write me a message about your great grandfather. I am writing a dissertation about travel writing to Holland and how writers saw Catholics in their travel writing. David Meldrum also wrote an article called Behind Dikes and Dunes which I am currently using. What you told me is very useful; his Protestantism, his Dutch wife and Scots birth all make sense to what I have read of his writing.
