So where ARE we from?

I've tried searching through the board. I was always raised to believe that our origins were French, until within the past few years when I discovered the English and Scottish theories. From reading posts here I gather that the Scottish theory has been fairly well disproven.

So, are we English or French? Or is there still some question?
