Hi Luis & the other Mejias,
My husband Freddie and I are trying to locate his father's family in the Philippines. His father was drowned in 1946 in Manila Bay while in the US Merchant marines. Here is what wehave of his history so far:
FRED (Freddie, or Federico) Anteola MEJIA
Birth: 8 January 1911
Death:: 7 January 1946
Last residence:Los Angeles, CA (?)
Born: Dagupan, Pangesinan, Philippines Jan. 8, 1911
Father: Natalio Mejia, born 1874, deceased by April 14, 1944.
Mother: RufinaAnteola (?)(this name was hard to read)born 1896,Dagupan, Pangesinan
Ereniu (not sure of the spelling) Mejia – brother in Philippines who invited the wife (who is not Philippina) and children to live with him after Freddie Sr.’s death (1946). But she couldn’t go, because the US government wouldn’t issue passports because of the shortage of food and housing at that time..
Freddie Mejia, Sr. came to US around April 1, 1928
Naturalized US citizen.
Died in the Merchant Marines
Relatives in US (we do not know where they are now or if they are still living):
Jhonnie Mejia – cousin (to Fred Sr.) – Hotel NewKing, Los Angeles
Ben Español, cousin (to Fred Sr.), 112 E. First St. Los Angeles
Can you tell us if we are related or if you know of this family or where to find the records. My husband is now 62 years old and we would love to go to the Philippines and meet his father's family if we could find them.
Thank you,
Marianna and Federico Mejia
