My gr, gr, grandfather James Michael was the brother of Andrew Michael they had a sister Catherine.
I have the 1851 census for the parish of Cadder,town
Garinkirk,Chryston. Thomas Michael head.Susannah wife.Catherine age 27 mar.Andrew age21 single. james age19
single.A ll three men were coal miners Catherine was an agricultural labourer.and lived in the 13to9 woodside cottage's.
As you know your gt,gt grandfather Andrew married Helen
Douglas on the 26th of Feb 1854 they had a son john born 1854Cadder and Thomas born 1855 Cadder. Hugh born Cadder 1856.Sarah 1858 Bo'ness WEST lothian.Susan 1860 Bo'ness.
James 1862 Bo'ness.Catherine 1865 Kirkintilloch.Ellen 1867 Lesmahagow Coalburn. They had more children after Ellen but this is when the name changes to Meikle,Andrew born 30/5/1869. Oldmonklands.William Boyd.30/4/1871.Old. monk.
Helen Lesmahagow Coalburn.28/12/1873 John Douglas. Coalburn.20/7/1875. Maria Coalburn.5/10/1876.
Thomas Michael WAS aged 60.AND Susannah 57.in the 1851. Census her Maiden name was Frame and both came from Ireland
she died and was buried in Bo'ness new graveyard Feb 10th 1860.her daughter Catherine witness. Thomas died before 1857 as she was a widow on her son James marrage certificate JAMES married Elizabeth Mcalister my gt.gt.grand parents .Andrew was born in Derry and Helen called sometimes Ellen was born in Tyrone he died in 1901
Oct 2nd at Lesmaghow his son Thomas MEIKLE witness. cause senile decay.age 72. Helen MEIKLE died on the 23/May 1916.
age 84. her father Hugh Douglas was a shoe maker her mother Sarah,maiden name ROBINSON, IRISH as read from death cert.Sarah Douglas is on my gr,gr,grand parents marrage cert.as a witness in 1857also Catherine Michael married their son Thomas but could find no recorded marrage but they had a family and both lived and died in
Cadder.My line of the family also changed the name from Michael to Carmichael as your branch did to MEIKLE.
Andrew and Helen had some tragedy in their lives they lost one son WILLIAM BOYD MEIKLE.he was a miner in Bellfield colliery and was killed in a roof fall on april 2nd 1902
age 32yrs. at gateside LESMAHGOW.he was laid to rest at lesmahagow new cemetery with his father his brother was also killed on the3/3/1919 no.6 Auclochan pit a three ton stone fell on him while working at 450 fathoms he was thomas the 2nd son born to Andrew and Helen he married Janet Mcgilvray 1/11/1893. she was born in Carnwath Circa 1856.
Hugh Meikle married Agnes Clyde born Lesmahagow on 28/10/1892. James Mar. Janet Jeffrey15/7/1892 Sarah Mar.james Forsyth 4/7/1882 Andrew Mar Mary J------- Born PARTICK gLASGOW 1878 helen borb28/12/1873 D.D.gateside 31/10/1887
John DOUGLAS Br.limerow 25/7/1875 this was an other John the first must have died early. MariaBr. 5/10/1876 Mrd .William Martin they had a daughter Helen Brn. Lesmahagow Circa.1900.
