I am very interested in your inquiry. My wife's Conochie (or Conachie) are from the area around Airth and Larbert, Stirlingshire. They were peasants at "Southfield" farm and held some coal leases. I have got them back to James Cono/achie who married Margaret Jarvie in 1751 at Airth. There are earlier mentioning of Conochie-s at Airth, but I have not been able to link The story of them and their descedands forms part of my book "Our Own World History" on which the following website gives more information: Obviously, surplus sons sought their fortune elsewhere, including as soldiers.
