Hi, Anne, am not related but did some research into this family while tracing James Meikle b c 1796 Stonehouse, son of William and Eliz. Will be pleased to receive info on them.

From my information :
Thomas(1)1797-1858 son of John Meikle m Margaret McMillian - farmer of Little Kype Farm, Strathaven and which is still in existance. Thomas was a builder on 1841 & 51 census and living at Townhead then Letham Rd. with I assume his 2nd. wife Mary Reid (1804-80) 1851 he was employing 15men. He had a son John b1827, I have no other information so am uncertain as to John's mother. Thomas had 5 children to Mary. Agnes 1828. Isobel 1835 m 1857 G. Weir. Margaret 1837. Thomas 1840. Mary 1841 m John Cochran. I have always had some reservations about Thomas & Robert wives' names and would appreciate any dates you had which would verify there accuracy.
Hope this is some help.
Cen. 1841 lists Mary aged 33 as Ths. wife and Robert as his 24year old son so She was obviously not his mother.
