Thanks for your note about another Meikle family in West Lothian. I have a letter to my great grandfather, William Meikle, dated February 1917, from the agents of the Calder Estate in which they say that their rent books for Torphichen Mains farm, Bathgate, do not go back beyond 1833 and that accordingly they cannot confirm that my ancestor was ever a tenant there. In fact I know that he was. What I find interesting though is that the Calder Estate seems to have been administering Torphichen Mains. If that estate still exists then it may have records that would provide further useful information. The 1917 letter came from a firm (unstated) located at 66, Queen Street, Edinburgh.
