The Ann Churchill/Vincent Meggs (Meigs) connection has never been proved. That Vincent was the son of Lawrence Meggs is pure fantasy -- it was just conjecture put forth by Henry Meigs in his 1901 History and Geneology. We just can't seem to get this "killed" (smile).

We have recently been able to identify Vincent in English records. Vincent Meigs married Emma Strong in Chardstock, Dorsetshire and had children Marie (baptised 16 Apr 1610), John (bapt 29 Jan 1612/13), Mark (bapt 25 Aug 1616), and Vincent, Jr. (died 3 Nov 1700).

Vincent was an Innkeeper in Axminster, Devon. We have the Will of John Maggs of Axminster who names Vincent as an Overseer. We also have the Will of Margaret Strong (Chardstock) the mother of Emma which notes Vincent Magges as her husband. Futher, we have the baptism records from Chardstock for three of the children.

If you have Vincent connected to Lawrence Meggs of Bradford Peverel or married to a Ms. Churchill, please correct your records.

Rick Meigs
