After I read your message I got curious about Thomas DIGBY, the son of John Harrison DIGBY and Martha MEIGS so I looked up some census reports and I think this is probably him though I cannot say for sure. This Thomas J EIGBY says that he was born Dec 1861 in AL. If it is the same Thomas DIGBY then he was in Rutherford County, North Carolina in 1900. He says he and his father were born in AL but his mother was born in SC. He lists his wife Hellen V as having been born in SC also. His children (Thomas J, Sarah, Henry, Ruth, Ernest)are all listed as having been born in SC as well. Perhaps he moved to be with his mother's family in SC after leaving AL? By 1910 this Thomas J. DIGBY was in Atlanta, GA. The children listed are the same except another daughter, Mary age 8 is listed as having been born in NC. In the 1910 GA census his older son Thomas J is listed as living with him and is married to Lila who is listed as having been born in NC. However, their children, age 4 and 19 months are listed as having been born in SC. If this is the same Thomas DIGBY then it looks like they were in NC, SC and GA after leaving AL. No, I do not know what happened to Martha MEIGS DIGBY. If there was a divorce, perhaps she took her son Thomas back to relatives in SC and that is how he came to be there?????
