Hi Debbie... thanks for the quick reply! I couldn't find your email address, so I'll use this posting instead...

Over the last two days I have collected some information on the first Mehlhopt who travelled from Germany to England, and from there to Lyttleton, New Zealand. I also found out that Mehlhop has no connection with Mehlhopt because 'hopt = haupt in German. (Well I hope so!! hehe) A Mehlhop in Germany told me this, and Mehlhop was once mentioned around the year 1100, so the Mehlhopts weren't around then (I think).

(source = Peter W. in NZ)

Heinrich Johan Heinrich Mehlhopt (Henry Mehlhopt for short) was born in Axstedt Hanover, Germany on 16 July 1871, and married Margaretha aged 22. They left England aboard the ship "CARISBROOK CASTLE" on 29 May 1874, and arrived at Lyttleton on 2 September 1874. They had 8 children.

That's as far as I know on Heinrich (Henry) Mehlhopt. Is this correct? What are your views??

I would like to keep in contact with you.

Sincerely,
Daniel Mehlhopt
