MYRTLE M. STEELE
(Obituary)
McComb, Ohio - Funeral services for Myrtle M. Steele, 97, formerly of McComb, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Harley Funeral Home, McComb, the Rev. James H. Nye officiating. Burial will be in McComb Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Steele died Wednesday, Dec 18, 1996 at the Heritage in Findlay. She had been a resident there for three years. She was born Sept. 8, 1899 in Linton, Iowa to John and Mary Coker Mehaffy. She married the Rev. Frank Leeman Steele.
Surviving are a son, Robert of Stamford, Conn.; a daughter, Mrs. Dean (Mary) Ewing, McComb; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two brothers, John Mehaffy, Sun City, Ariz.; Talmage Mehaffy, Morning Sun, Iowa; and two sisters, Inez Shulze, Burlington, Iowa; and Mittie Parr, California.
She also was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Smith.
Mrs. Steele was a school teacher. She also was self-employed doing doll repairs in Stafford, Kan.
She attended Geneva College in Pennsylvania, Cornell College, Iowa, and the University of Iowa. She received her teaching certificate in Morning Sun, Iowa, where she taught prior to her marriage.
Mrs. Steele was a 50 year member of the OES, Stafford, Kan. She also was a member of the Stafford, Kan. Garden Club. Her other memberships included the McComb Philmath Club, the McComb American Legion Auxiliary, McComb First Presbyterian Church and the church's Women's Association and WCTU.
Memorials may be made to the church or to the McComb Public Library.
