I have been doing some research at the National Archives on the Rev.William Meers family of Georgia and Arkansas. I have also seen some apparent errors in information posted online in Genforum and in Ancestry.com for this family. Since we ALL are in search of the correct information I would like to list what I have that is documented proof and I am hoping that others will add their documented proof here so we can clear up fact from assumption. I have personally found Rev. William Meers , his wife Frances and children as follows: 1850 Census Johnson Co., Arkansas William Meers, age 56 Farmer $1000 Real estate , born in South Carolina Frances Meers, age 50, born in South Carolina Sarah M. age 21 , born in Georgia Elisha, age 20 Farmer, born in Georgia William N. 18 Farmer, born in Georgia Jefferson, age 16, Farmer, born in Georgia Minerva age 12 , born in Georgia Andrew J. ( middle initial not P. as reported in online sites) age 8 born in Georgia Census, 1860 Clarksville, Johnson Co., Ark. William Meers age 66, Farmer $1500 real estate $500 Pers. prop., born in South Carolina Frances Meers age 60, born in South Carolina Minerva, age 21, born in Georgia Andrew age 18, born in Georgia Census 1870 Clarksville, Johnson Co.Ark., Pg 114 Meers, Elisha, age 40, Probate Judge, $5000 RE, $625 pers. property, born in Georgia wife, Lucy M. (Note the people on Mears GenForum who had Newell , Mears connections) Census 1870 Springcreek Twp., Yell Co., Ark. Meers, Andrew J., age 28, Farmer, $500 RE and $400 Pers., born in Georgia wife: Eleanor A. , age 28, Keeping house, born in Arkansas Meers, Ora C., age 3, born in Arkansas Meers Daniel, age 1, born in Arkansas Meers, William, age 1, born in Arkansas Stone, Eleanor N., age 51 , born in Georgia( this is Eleanor A. Meers mother, thus Eleanor A. Meers maiden name is Stone) 1880 Census Springcreek, Yell Co., Ark. Pg 375 Meers, A.J. , age 38, Farmer, born in Georgia, both parents born in South Carolina Meers, H.A. Meers, Elisha J. 22rd Arkansas Infantry Company D. Rank Capt. 1862 "Western Arkansas Biographies and Historical Memorirs" Elisha Mears became a Judge 1868. Obituary "Daily Oklahoman" for Lilley Mae (Meers) Pullen, wife of John E. Pullen. States her surviving brother is Willie Meers and surviving sisters are Myrtle Hurt and Mrs. R.G. Borger. An autograph book belonging to Lilley Mae Meers ,still owned by the family, has a page from her sister saying "dear little sis" signed Cinnie M. Meers (The M. would be for Myrtle and this is the C.M. Meers in the Census listed as older sister of Lilley M. Meers) )the other sister is Helen A. Meers who married R.G. Borger) "History of Johnson Co., Arkansas" has a bio about Rev. William Meers." the info in it matches the info I have found. I saw the entry in Ancestry.com listed numerous other children for William Meers and Frances. 1.Question: Could anyone provide documentation for these other children? 2.Question: One record showed Moses Meers and Lucinda Brown as the parents of William Meers but on Ancestry.com it shows the parents as Frances Murphy and Mary King. Does anyone have proof of parentage? I would think it might be Frances Murphy and Mary King as Frances Meers was listed as Frances King Meers on one Census so she likely would have been named Frances for her father and King for her mother's maiden name. 3.Question: Where did all of the other Meers kids go? They apparently weren't in Johnson Co., Ark. except maybe the girls who married. 4.Question:There was a Sarah A. Meers on the 1880 Census in Izard Co., Ark. Who is she? Let's make this a place to add all of our documentation for Meers research on Rev. William Meers family. Thanks Suzy Mitchell @prodigy.net
