I have a James Meers HAMMOND (1797-1830) who married Eliza KING at Lurgashall, Sussex, 22 May 1823. James was the son of William HAMMOND & Elizabeth MITCHELL. I can only guess that the MEERS name may have come from Elizabeth's mother's maiden name? William's uncle was born in Gosport, Hampshire, but I don't know when the move was made to Sussex. James & Eliza's daughter, Maria, married a MEREDITH - the MEREDITHs were from Birmingham, eg the grandfather of the groom, John MEREDITH was a 'most eminent barrister, of Birmingham'. Do any of these names ring a bell? Notify Administrator about this message?
