Children of Robert Meeker and Rebecca Morehouse
There is a widely circulated list of children for Robert and Rebecca Morehouse Meeker.I have been able to document plausible connections with most of the children on the list, but have major questions about two:
1.Ichabod Meeker/Meaker, who was born on 1 August 1750 at Fairfield, Fairfield Co., Connecticut, and died on 29 November 1841 in Veteran, Chemung Co., New York. He served in the Revolutionary War from Connecticut and was on the 1790 census in Fairfield Co., Connecticut.
2.Ephraim Meeker, who was born abt. 1754 in Connecticut and died on24 Dec 1831 in Pittsfield, Otsego Co., New York, and is buried in St Andrew's Cemetery, New Berlin Chenango Co., New York,He married Comfort Johnson on 15 Apr 1779 in Derby, Connecticut and was on the 1790 census in Redding, Fairfield, Connecticut.
Robert Meeker left Fairfield, Connecticut, and was in what became Hinsdale, Columbia Co., New York, before the summer of 1766.He was one of the residents of Nobletown (Hillsdale) who was compensated by Massachusetts for losses sustained during the Boundary Wars in Columbia County in 1766. (Felt Collection at the Massachusetts State Archives, microfilm, Volume 6, Page 360.)
Assuming Robert was in Nobletown/Hinsdale by 1765, at the latest, why would he have left Ichabod, who would have been 15, and Ephraim, who would have been about 11, in Fairfield when the rest of the family moved to Nobletown/Hinsdale?
There were many Meekers in Connecticut during the later part of the 18th century and a fair number moved to New York and even turned up in the same counties as Robert Meeker and his children and grandchildren. It seems likely that Ichabod and Ephraim could have been related to the other Connecticut Meekers who moved to New York somewhat after Robert.
So, does anyone have documentation that Ichabod and Ephraim actually belonged to Robert and Rebecca?
