SIDNEY & LILLIAN MEEKER- 1930 census Memphis TN
Posted by: Barbara McNamara (ID *****8116) Date: July 07, 2010 at 08:28:11

Trying to make contact with descendants of Sidney & Lillian Meeker who lived at 1432 Vinton Avenue, Memphis TN in 1930. They had two daughters (Edith R. Meeker age 26 and Lillian D. Meeker age 20) on that census.

Mrs. Meeker wrote to the Commissioner of Pensions, Washington DC, in 1931 requesting the file of her ancestor, Capt. STEPHEN ALEXANDER, who fought in the Revolutionary War.

His pension file revealed that Capt. Alexander's estate was being handled for his widow, Martha Wilson Alexander, by BENJAMIN ALEXANDER, who had been named Executor.

My ancestor is BENJAMIN ALEXANDER -- and we have been told that Benjamin had four brothers who fought in the RevWar. I am trying to determine if Capt. Stephen Alexander was one of these brothers.

From Mrs. Meeker's correspondence in that file, it appears she was gathering information on her RevWar ancestor to apply for DAR membership. I would like to get in touch with her descendants who may be able to give me additional family information on Capt. Stephen Alexander.

Thank you.
