I went back over my information about Jonathan Meeker's family. Judging from the ages of the children living with Jonathan in 1810, it looks as if Ephraim was out of Jonathan's household by the time of the 1810 census. I did not find him in his own household in 1810 -- maybe he was working as a farm hand or was living with in-laws. I also went through the 1820 and 1830 Schoharie census lists name by name and did not find Ephraim on either list. He could have been living with relatives in 1820 -- not unusual for a young family -- but he was in his own place in 1825 and seems to have left Schoharie Co. by 1830. I guess he could have moved to Ohio by 1819, when Wesley was born, and then moved back to New York in time for the 1825 census, and then back to Ohio again, but travel was pretty difficult in those days. There were two other Meekers with Schoharie connections in the old Geauga Co. area of Ohio at the same time your Ephraim was. One was Robert Meeker who was said to have married Catherine Chappell. (She is buried in Geauga Co.) The other Meeker was Daniel born 17 Dec 1804 in Schoharie Co. He may have been Robert's son. (I can't find my notes.) In any event, Daniel was in Ohio for the 1830 census and his son Lysander was born in Geauga Co. January 3, 1833. Lysander Meeker married Cornelia V. Vansickler 03 SEP 1857, Lee, Iowa, and they were on the 1860 census in Lee County 2nd Ward Keokuk. There has to be some connection between your Meekers and these Meekers. There are just too many "coincidences." I haven't done a lot of research on Robert and Daniel Meeker because they don't seem to connect directly to Jonathan Meeker, but I did take notes on them when I was trying to figure out where my Lydia Meeker came from. If you want, I will see what I still have. Janice Notify Administrator about this message?
