Gail, Good Question.Hemingord, Que is just north of New York on the Vermont and Quebec borders.Halifax, Quebec is farther north near Thetford Mines, Quebec.About 15 miles West and about 65 miles north of Sherbrooke. On a Quebec Map it would either be listed as St. Ferdinand d' Halifax or as it's called today, Bernierville. But they tell me they are converting back to St. Ferdinand d' Halifax in the very near future. There were many Meehan's in this vicinity after 1844 as it was the Irish settlement for Quebec and further down the road and west of Sherbrooke was the Scottish settlements. There are hardly any Irish or Scottish left in Quebec. However, there are many ancestors with French-Canadian names. In my Meehan family, there was a Charles, Peter and Patrick that I have been unable to locate.Charles was born around 1827 in Ireland; Peter was born around 1806 and Patrick was about 1847.The rest I have found.I know of none in Hemingford. However, just west of there in Great Bend, NY and I believe Ontario there were some from leads that I have. There also is a Meehan family up in Alberta which came from Inverness, Quebec which is about 10 miles from Halifax and I have contacted this family.Good Luck!
