REBECCA MEEHAN. Limerick. Ireland.
Anyone recognise this family?
DAVID MURPHY was born about 1835 (Limerick?) the son of Rebecca Meehan and Patrick Murphy. Were there other children? His father seems to have died when he was an infant and his mother remarried (St Johns, Limerick December 1838) to JOHN CUMMINS. David or ‘DAVE’ was raised with the Cummins children born in the second marriage.
Is she the Rebecca Cummins, buried Limerick September 1883 aged 82 years?
Dave seems to have excelled at Mathematics and it was alleged that he was at one time on the staff at Flannen College, Ennis, County Claire. Enquiry there has met with a negative response. He was also an accomplished flute player.
He married but I have no idea who his wife was. They had one known daughter CATHERINE MURPHY who married a solicitor John Tarrant who had a practice in Teeling Street, Sligo. The same company relocated and set up business in Arklow, County Wicklow.
Dave, I believe acted as an accountant or similar capacity at this Arklow premises. If that was so he and family probably resided /worshipped/took recreation etc in same locality.
Widowed in late life Dave allegedly remarried a widow Mrs Malloy (or similar name) who ran a Newsagents/Tobacconists shop. Her son Jack Malloy was said to be in the Diplomatic Service of the time.
