Problem is, you're going to find variations on the pedigree of Gilbert Malet. A couple of compiled sources which will get you off to a you a good start are:
Weis, Ancestral Roots, 7th Edition, 1992, Line 234A
I.J. Sanders, English Baronies, Oxford University Press, 1960, pp. 38-39, 43
Although there is information here on this family, it's always a good idea to follow up on the sources cited in these types of references. Not only will this confirm (or in some cases conflict) with the conclusions of the authors, editors, or contributors, but frequently will provide even more information.
Two of these citations are available online:
Arthur Malet, "Notices of an English Branch of the Malet Family, London, MDCCCLXXXV (1885) is available to view or download (as a pdf file) at: http://books.google.com/books?id=qgIHAAAAQAAJ&pg=PA1&dq=Notices+of+an+English+Branch+of+the+Malet+Family#v=onepage&q=&f=falsehttp://books.google.com/books?id=qgIHAAAAQAAJ&pg=PA1&dq=Notices+of+an+English+Branch+of+the+Malet+Family#v=onepage&q=&f=false
If you're familiar with Google Books you'll know that often you have to scroll up for the title page.
Also:
Somersetshire Archaeological and Natural History Society, Vol xxx, 1884, part II, p. 74-5
(here you'll find the article "Notes on the Malet Family" by A. Malet). Note: This is a bound periodical so there is more than one page 74.
Anyway, this is a good example of where looking for yourself might be better than just accepting what someone posts. See what you think...
