The usual dates given are 500-1500.

The dates are arbitrary, of course. The concept of Ancient / Medieval / Modern is an invention of 19th century historians. Many institutions that we think of as typically medieval continued long after 1500, for example there was still serfdom in Russia in the 19th century. In England there was open field agriculture until the middle of the 19th century.
