Can anyone help with the following, please? According to Cockayne, the Bassetts of Sapcote descend as follows: 1. William Bassett (4th son of Richard, and Maud Ridel) 2. Ralph Bassett 3. Ralph Bassett, d c.1282 4. Simon Bassett, d bef. 29 Sep 1295 5. Ralph Bassett, d 1322 6. Simon Bassett, d.1328 (m. Isabel Boteler) 7. Ralph Bassett, dspm 1378, Lord Bassett of Sapcote I have several questions as follows: Was John Bassett of Cheadle (who died in 1342 and was the father of John Bassett who married Joan Brailsford) the brother (or half-brother) of the second Simon? Who was the mother of this Simon? Was it Elizabeth de Colvill or Margaret, widow of Urian de St. Pierre? Likewise, who was John's mother (assuming he was Simon's [half-]brother? Was, in fact, Elizabeth de Colvill the wife of Ralph, d.1322 (as Cockayne originally states), or of Ralph (d c.1282), as listed in CP Addenda and Corrigenda? [If the latter, why is there no retraction of Elizabeth being originally quoted as the later Ralph's wife? She can't be both!] Who was the mother of Simon (d bef. 29 Sep 1295)? Was it Milicent de Chaucombe, or Ralph's first wife (whether or not it was Elizabeth de Colvill!)? Sorry for so many questions, but any help - particularly quoting sources - would be most appreciated. Thanks. Notify Administrator about this message?
