Here are a few links you might find useful. This first is for Access to Archives. You can select only the Norfolk Record Office to narrow the number of hits. Best to try lots of different variations, because it doesn't recognize variants (I've checked Mead Meade Mede Meide Meydde Meede, you name it). http://www.a2a.org.uk/search/index.asp It seems that there are quite a lot of manorial records still existing for Hingham. There were four manors. For the manor of Hingham there are various kinds of manorial records going back to the 13th century. The ones called rentals are especially useful, lists of people and the property they held, and at what rent. They often mention previous tenants or neighbors. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/mdr/searches/search.asp The tax lists also give a lot of names. The best are from 1523 and 1545. There were extensive poll taxes for 1377, 1379 and 1381, but nothing survives for Hingham. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/e179/search.asp And for published work, this is the best place to start: http://www.norfolkrecordsociety.org.uk/publications.htm Notify Administrator about this message?
