David, ES II:97 verifies Harald II ‘Bluetooth had a sister Gunhild, a wife (1) Gunhild, as well as a daughter Gunhild (by his first wife). So confusing, yes, but apparently a popular name. The sister Gunhild is indicated by a dashed line indicating a probable or possible connection, and she did marry Erik ‘Blood-Axe.’ And Brian Thompsett has evidently changed his source because under the father of Harald II, Gorm ‘the Old,’ he notes: See Europäisch Stammtafeln Band II tafel 70. This may be the correct table in an earlier version of ES, but in the 3rd series you’ll find mention of Gorm and his descendants in Tafels 97-99 as well as 105. You might also want to see: CP X: Appendix A “Norse Predecessors of The Earls of Orkney,” p. 4 Brenner, “Nachkomen Gorms des Alten” (1978) Moriarty, “The Plantagenet Ancestry of King Edward III and Queen Philippa” (1985) Sturlason, “Heimskringla (1990 et al) As to the last, it’s widely available and is a good read (not to mention entertaining) for anyone studying this area of history. I suggest it’s better to research works such as this yourself then form your own opinions. But it's just a thought. Jim Notify Administrator about this message?
