Thanks, Jim. I had the link from William's wife Adelaide-Blanche to the early Counts of Anjou from my moderately reliable sources, but needed to confirm that ES had him as Constance' father, and the connection to Charles Constantine. I've been working on a writing project without decent access to a lot of standard references, such as ES for Europe, and Balfour, I think it is, for Scottish earldoms. I've been dealing a lot with various histories, which certainly has its pitfalls, but a few advantages, because scholars in specialized areas turn out to be skeptical of a lot of lines that make it into the geneological reference books. In particular, a lot of the connections between Western monarchies and Byzantium turn out to be speculative, with parents given for such Byzantine brides as Theophano, wife of German Emperor Otto II, or the Greek mother of Kievian prince Vladimir Monomakh which are apparently not supported by the original sources. Anna, at least, is a confirmed daughter of Leo VI at the Byzantine end. On a similar note, I see that Tompsett repeats the Finnish origin given in Norse sagas for Gunnhilde, Mother of Kings, wife of Eric Bloodaxe, even though I've seen other sources that confidently attach her to the main Danish line as a brother of Harald Bluetooth, and Gwyn Jones in "A History of the Vikings" dismisses the Finnish stories as Icelandic fantasy. Would you happen to know what sources support Gunnhilde's Danish origins? I can grounds for confusion, because printed geneologies I've seen give Harald Bluetooth a sister, wife, daughter and daughter-in-law all named Gunnhilde. Again, thanks for your help.
David
