Jack and Isobelle Medcalf(e) -U.S.?

This is a shot in the dark but ask on behalf of a contact who does not have access.
She is trying to trace her father-in-law's family. He died when her husband was a child. Marriage register (8 Nov 1920 in Vancouver, Canada) says that he was a bachelor, a miner, a Protestant, born in the U.S. His father was Jack Medcalf(e) also born in the U.S. and mother was Isobelle born in England (maiden name unknown). His age in 1920 is given as 42 so born c 1878 somewhere in the U.S.A.

I am hoping that Jack junior had siblings whose descendants might read this. So, anyone with Jack and Isobelle Medcalfe producing children in the U.S. around 1878?
