Hi Gwen:Yes, I believe the same way as you do about all the derivations of the names. When I first started this less than a year ago, I was looking at the Meacham line, thinking it would end up as Mitchum, etc.One Meacham person that I came across was in the "right area" and at the "right time" as my supposed ancestors. His children even changed their names to Mitchum (from Meacham). Then I got some information from Wm Meacham who is a professor at Univ. of Hong Kong.He said that he really felt that I was descended from the Southern Mitchums who came into the USA in the 1630's.The earliest person I can find is Robert Mitchum, b.1776 in VA.I can trace down from him to me, but can go no further unless I cross over to the Meachams/Mechams/etc.I still cannot find an exact tie into the families, however. It is frustrating to feel that you are close yet so far away. When Dr.Meacham told me about the Southern Meachams, he also told me about the book "Meacham, Mitchum, etc....Families of the South", by Clarence Mitcham. This 400 page book SURELY shows some kind of connection.I wish I could buy it but it is unavailable.I can read parts of it at the LDS Family History Library....but....400 pages!!!!
I guess we will just have to keep plugging away! You hang in there and I will too.If I EVER see a connection, I will contact you.Do the same for me, o.k.?Ruth
