My line of Mebane came from John Mebane, b. Apr 1797, in Raleigh, NC, son of William Brown Mebane, son of Alexander Mebane I. John and his brothers moved to Carroll Co., TN, where they raised large families. Several family members fought for the confederacy.

The link of John Mebane to William Brown Mebane is weak - mentioned only in a letter. I'm also trying to find the family and marriage record of John's wife, Julia Pickett. They were married in Raleigh on 12 Apr 1831. Julia's mother was ? Eliz. Hamilton-but I can't find her family in census records etc. The source of my info was an old family record. Help appreciated.
