I suggest that you might try to get a copy of History and Genealogy of the Mebane Family by Robert M. Mebane. I could not find your Charles W. in this book, but it is the only work I know of on this family.

Robert M. "Bob" Mebane is in the process of moving. Send me an E-Mail (hgrantham@aol.com), and I will send you his new address.

You might be able to find this book in Washington, D.C. or in the North Carolina Archives at Raleigh. William Mebane came from Ireland to Pennsylvania. His son John stayed there, while his other sons Alexander and William went to North Carolina. There is a community of Mebane near Raleigh, North Carolina.
