MEAUX, Thomas b. New Kent Co., Va.
Posted by: Raymond W. Ryan, Jr. Date: June 21, 1999 at 16:46:13

Visited Grub Hill Episcopal Church and Cemetery in Amelia Co., Va. today and found the following grave marker:

THOMAS MEAUX
Born New Kent County (Va.)
February 25, 1792
Died Amelia County (Va.)
December 3, 1858

Earlier reports and written material included that the Meux were from New Kent Co., Va. and the Des Meaux/De Meaux were French Huguenots who were at Manakin Towne (Goochland Co., Va.) in the late 1600s. These same writings stated that those with the surname Meux were from England and no way connected with the Des Meaux/De Meaux. This is all conjecture but wanted to get out this recent evidence that argues both points. Any ideas out there?
