Hi Donna!
This is from the work of Milton Smith:
Harriet A. SMITH
born 15 Feb 1861
daughter of Archibald SMITH and Julia Ann TATUM
died at High Point, Guilford Co., NC
buried at Briar Branch Church Cemetery, Bladen Co., NC (John also buried here)
" Aunt Harriet was Macy McDuffie Smith's favorite. When she (Harriet) visited at the McDuffie house Macy would cry to go home with her. Macy fondly remembers the delicious hearth-baked sweet potatoes that Aunt Harriet made."
The 1920 Bladen Census shows a Harriet A. Meares, born circa 1861, living in the household of Tom B. King and his wife Margaret. Harriet is listed as sister-in-law.
I don't know the marriage date for Harriet and John Wesley, but since their first child (of 10 children) was born March 1882, I would assume they were married by 1881.
Hope this helps. My mother was a Meares. Email direct if you would like to do so.
Barb
