good to hear from you and yes the Meares did come from
Somerset, Longford, etc. Also there was a Meares Court which
if I think is a Hotel/Inn now.. I do have The Book by Robert
Meares and some info. on the DElA Meres family and Lewis
Meares' court problems when he appartently backed the wrong
side and lost some land and title... I do have
Thomas Meares(Merres) b. 1601 coming to Virgina (1620)
he went to Maryland and later some of his Kins came to VA.
and Mark m. Elizabeth Van Pelt and they had the 5 J's that
came fom Dobbs Co., NC. Their name was listed as Mayers
Later it became for some Mears with Levin being one to get the second "e" Meares....So the name has been battered around by having people hear the word and then transcribe
it.( I had a sarge in the Army who called me Mehieress which I answered to because he scared the daylights out of me and i certainly wasn't going to correct him, so for two months that was my name).
Keep in touch
