I am researching a group of families who ran riverboats out of Pittsburgh starting around 1750. One of the families in the group is named Means. I know for sure they are connected to General Braddock's and George Washington's expedition to Pittsburgh July 9 1755 to drive out the French on the orders of Gov Dinwiddie of Virginia. General Braddock was killed in that charge.

Because of the other families involved and buried together including the Lewis' who are related to both George Washington and Meriwether Lewis, I know this is the correct group. I doubt very much the Dinwiddie name connected to the name Means is a coincidence. More so since they are boat builders in Pittsburgh.
