I don't know if you are interested in alternative spellings of Meale in this forum. The early registers of St Peter's, Bolton, have quite a few Meall, Meal, Meale entries starting with the baptism of Thomas Mealls of Longworth on the 21st July 1591. I suspect many of them belong to my family where the spelling has ended up as Mayoh. The local dialect confuses the "ow"(rhymes with how) sound and "al" as in malcontent.
