I have a John Meagher born abt. 1759 married Jane Nichols abt 1784 and had 5 sons and a daughter between 1785-1800 in Trinity, Trinity Bay Newfoundland. I know that there is also a William Meagher there and I believe his name got changed from Meagher to Maher sometime in the first half of that century. I know that the first instance of John, Meagher was spelled with an "a" before the "r" or Meaghar, and I believe my ancestor is descended from them but I have no proof, yet, and her name is also spelled Maher. The family of Meaghers mentioned above are all of the Roman Catholic faith. Hope this helps. Most of the information I have on this family is in my own posts looking for information.
