I am looking for the parents and marriage record of Francis (or Frank) Maugher (or Marr)and his wife Hannah (possibly Parker or Smith) who baptized 3 children at St. Paul's Church in Rawdon, Nova Scotia 5 June 1831. This is what I know about the family.
Father: Francis, a tailor, died 26 March 1862 at age 84 in Stoneham, Massachusetts. His death record says he was born in Wales. A William Marr of Walton, Nova Scotia may be a relative. A Michael Magher (who married Elizabeth Reid in Rawdon in 1833) is another possibility. This name could also be spelled "Meagher" or even "Mahar."
Mother: Hannah Marr of Stoneham, Massachusetts died 8 August 1865, age 61 years, a widow, in Portland, Maine. Her place of birth is given as Walton, Nova Scotia. No maiden name is indicated. Her son William's death record gives her maiden name as Parker. Her daughter Martha Elizabeth's death record gives her maiden name as Smith.
Francis and Hannah were in Stoneham by 1855 when they appear in a state census. Frank was 75, born in England,
Hannah was 49, born in Massachusetts. In the 1860 federal census, Frank's age is given as 74 and his birthplace is given as Ireland. Hannah's age is given as 56 and her birthplace is given as Nova Scotia.
Children: The first three, Mary, John, and Sarah, last name spelled Maugher, were baptized at St. Paul's Church in Rawdon on 5 June 1831. The family is said to be "of Douglas."
Mary, born before 5 June 1831. Did not remove to Stoneham. Her brother William's 1894 obituary calls her Mrs. Blair of Maitland, Nova Scotia. She may be the Mary Blair who appears in Maitland in the 1871 census, age 45, with husband Robert, age 58. Children in the household include Fred, Jane, Michael, James, and Sarah. Robert died in Maitland in 1874 at age 58. No death record discovered for Mary.
John, born before 5 June 1831. Married Jane Martin, possibly in Nova Scotia, before 1855, when he was living next door to his parents in Stoneham. Born Nova Scotia. He was a shoemaker. In 1860 the family was living in Lynn. He died before 1865. His widow married Samuel Drew.
Sarah, born before 5 June 1831. Married 20 April 1852, William Rand, in Portland, Maine. Still living in 1894 when she was called Mrs. Rand of Portland, Maine.
Esther--Born 7 April 1832. In 1850, Esther Marr, age 15, born in Nova Scotia, was residing in Portland, Maine in the household of William Parker. She married John Henry Holmes before 1855. They resided in Stoneham where John Holmes was a shoemaker. She died 22 July 1885 in Stoneham.
Francis (Frank) born 29 April 1835. (1855 Census says he was 19 and born in Nova Scotia.) He married 2 July 1863 Aramenta M. Jones in Lynn, Massachusetts. He died 10 March 1864 in Stoneham. His place of birth is given as Maitland, Nova Scotia, age 28, son of Frank and Hannah Marr.
James--Born 5 June 1843. He was a shoemaker. He enlisted in the Union army 9 May 1863. Died 25 November 1868 in Stoneham.
William B. Marr--Born 2 October 1845. (1855 and 1860 census say he was born in Nova Scotia). Civil War soldier--enlisted in Portland, Maine. Married Olive Vesta Locke 16 July 1874 in Portsmouth, NH. Died 24 February 1894 in Stoneham. His death record says his mother was Hannah Parker, born in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Obituary says he had 3 brothers and 4 sisters, only Mrs. Blair, Mrs. Rand, and Mrs. Mountain remaining.
Martha Elizabeth (Lizzy)--Born 31 July 1848. (1855 census says she was born in Maine. 1860 census says she was born in Nova Scotia) Married 24 December 1868 Joseph "Mountain" Descary. Her parents are given as Frank and Hannah Marr. Her place of birth is given as Maitland, Nova Scotia. She died 3 July 1935 in West Lebanon, Maine. Her death record gives her parents as John Marr and Hannah Smith and says both parents were born in Nova Scotia.
