Pam,

This is very interesting indeed. I must admit my mind is still open on the Radclive suggestion (see message I have just posted to Sarah Meads of Oxford), however your Thomas does seem to fit the data I have so far. I had already seen his entry in the 1881 census and bookmarked it as a possibility.

My Thomas was recorded as a widowerand a coke drawer when he married my g-grandmother on 1/11/1890 at Bishop Auckland register office, and his father was recorded as William, Labourer, (deceased), so it looks even more promising. The only variants are that both Thomas and William are recorded as MEADE on the marriage cert, but this may be nothing significant, and my Thomas is age 31 on his marriage cert and in the 1891 census, but 80 on his death in 1936, so confusion all around on his age.

Would you mind sending me the other data you have? I will send you the data I have on Thomas in County Durham as soon as I can.

Hope to hear from you
John Brass
