Lebanon, VA – Cecil Clayton Meade, 92, passed away
Thursday, January 22, 2009, in Wellmont Bristol Regional
Medical Center.
Mr. Meade was a farmer, he was born and lived his entire
life at the Meade homeplace near Lebanon, VA. He was a
faithful and dedicated member of Pleasant Hill Baptist
Church, where he served as deacon. He was known in his
community as a quiet man of the Lord, serving many of his
neighbors in their time of need.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hampton and Maude
Fields Meade; son, Reginald Meade; grandson, David Meade;
son-in-law, Clifford Huffman; daughter-in-law, Janet
McFall Meade; sisters, Oneida Gose, Lola Crouch and Myrtle
Tester; and brother, Chester Meade.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Frances Kiser
Meade; sons, Duff Meade and Roger and wife Gladys Meade;
twin daughters, Janice and husband Douglas Musick and
Joyce Huffman; two sisters, Margaret Williams Hanes,
Kingston, TN, and Ann Gray, Hepzibah, GA; 10 grandchildren;
17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Sunday,
January 25, 2009, at the funeral home.
A joint funeral service for Cecil and his wife Frances
will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2009, in
the Combs Funeral Service Chapel, with the Rev. Jeff
Kinder, the Rev. Larry Burton and the Rev. Bobby Turner
officiating. Burial will follow in Ketron Memorial
Gardens. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Sunday,
January 25, 2009, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill
Baptist Church, c/o Carrie Kiser, 413 Kiser Lane, Lebanon, VA 24266.
