Vance,

I contacted a Polk Co., Arkansas volunteer. She stated that some of the marriage records from the time were lost in a fire. She did state however, that she did have an obituary (and funeral record) for Mary Lavina Mead Fleming. Both of these records have her maiden name as Mead.

Certainly, Thomas Mead is a possibility for being William's father (the strongest at this point given that he is the only). Just like in the Mary Lavina Mead case I would like to see more proof. To be honest William's estimated birth age is taken from his age bracket on the 1820 Georgia census. That is all it is is an estimate. I believe he would've been born between 1794 and 1775.

Anyway, One mystery solved (ML Mead) another looms, but with your assistance I am possibly closer than where I was before.,

James
