Below is what I was able to find about William B. Mead and his children when I was looking into this last spring. Finding his christening record in England could be a challenge - I just checked the IGI for William Mead born in England 1780-90 and there were more than 100 results.
There is another possibility. I have his wife, Mary Harris, born in Laurens Co., SC in 1800. In the 1790 census there is a Thomas Mead in Laurens Co., SC. A possible father?
