Morrison is missing no more. Found this in The Journal, Springfield, Illinois, Friday, December 13, 1895, Page 5:
"Meacham -- Died Thursday, Dec. 12, 1895, of dropsy, at St. John's hospital, Morris Meacham. The deceased had been confined at the county jail since Nov. 29 as an insane prisoner. His real home is not known. He was taken to the hospital yesterday morning. The funeral will take place this morning from Foster's undertaking parlors. Interment in Oak Ridge cemetery." Cemetery records show a "Charles Mecham" who was buried Dec. 11, 1895, and the undertaker was John Foster. ORC clerk said date of burial on record that old is usually date of death. I don't know why the name on the cemetery record is Charles. Maybe that was his actual first name, or his middle name. He's buried about 100 yards south of his mother, Mary, and younger brother, Joseph, in block 1, range 7, grave 59. "Malissa (Bacon) Meachan," Morris's wife, is buried in Block 21, Section 8, Range A, Grave 19. All four graves are unmarked. Sounds like a sad end to the life of my great-great grandfather.
