Obituary of
Hudson Peavy Meacham, Jr.:
Mr. Meacham, age 81, of Huntersville (NC), formerly of Hickory (NC), died Wednesday July 4, 2007 at Carolinas Medical Center. Born August 13, 1926 in Jacksonville, Florida, he was the son of the late Hudson P. Meacham, Sr. and Frances Youse Meacham.
Hudson Meacham was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, Jacksonville, Fla class of 1944, All State and All Southern (4 from Fla) Football and was on the 1945 Duke University Sugar Bowl Team. He attended Duke University graduating in 1949 with a BS Electrical Engineering. He served active duty in the US Navy 1945-1946 and served as an Ensign in the USNR 1949-1955. He was employed with Duke Power Company for forty years.
Affectionately known as Punk, Bubba, Bobby by his family, Jelly Belly or Jug head by his friends, he was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Elder, Deacon, Superintendent of Sunday School, and served on the Christian Education Committee. Mr. Meacham was an Eagle Scout and Scout Master.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, July 7, at Bethel Presbyterian Church with Dr. Lewis Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Raymer Funeral Home.
Survivors are his wife, Anna Rankin Meacham; sons, John P. Meacham and wife, Sue, of Raleigh, Daniel W. Meacham and wife, Lillian of Decatur, GA, David H. Meacham and wife, Sue, of Huntersville; grandchildren, Brian, James, Lauren, Betsy, William, Anna and Eleanor; and great grandchild, Emma.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church, 19920 Bethel Church Road, Cornelius, NC 28031.
