Walter H. Beverly, Jr.

(October 21, 1917 - November 27, 2009)

U.S. Veteran Walter Herbert Beverly, Jr., 92, of Westminster, Maryland died on Friday, November 27, 2009, at the Westminster Ridge Assisted Living in Westminster, Maryland, where he resided.

Born October 21, 1917 in Machias,Washington County Maine, he was the son of the late Walter H. Beverly, Sr. and Mary Petersen Beverly. He was the husband of Irene (Tondrick) Beverly.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater and attained the rank of captain. He had been employed as a branch supervisor for the Social Security Administration, retiring in 1975.

He was a member of Toastmasters of the Social Security Administration and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed playing the keyboard, playing tennis, painting, duck-pin bowling and spending time with his family. He kept a personal daily diary since 1956. He loved his home state of Maine and spent many vacations there. He touched all those he came in contact with his humor and his compassion.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughter and son-in-law, Dale C. and Evan Buckingham of Manchester, Maryland; son and daughter-in-law, Walter Kraig and Jeanne Beverly of Hampstead, Maryland; grandchildren, Danielle Buckingham of Leesburg, Virginia, Bryan Buckingham and his wife Kerry of Perry Hall, Maryland, and Kyle, Eric and Ryan Beverly all of Hampstead, Maryland.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 2, 2009, from 3 p.m. until time of the memorial service at 6 p.m. at Eline Funeral Home located at 934 South Main Street in Hampstead, Maryland.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Carroll County Hospice Dove House, 292 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157 or to a charity of your choice.
