There is an article about the murder trial of Ebenezer Ball, prisoner that was described in the indictment as a laborer and late resident of Robbinston, in the County of Washington. He was charged with the murder of a John Tileston Downes on 28 January 1811. The trial was held in Castine on 22 June 1811.

This case is said to have been the first homicide trial held in the Washington-Hancock Supreme Court.

The article "THE 1811 TRIAL OF EBENEZER BALL IN CASTINE" is in Volume 2 Number 2 Fall 1995 in FOREBEARS IN YOUR MAINE FAMILY TREE.
