WORCESTER, Frances S., 95

JONESPORT - Frances S. Worcester, 95, passed away peacefully Oct. 21, 2000, at her residence in Jonesport. She was born at Jonesport, April 6, 1905, a daughter of John V. and Annie (Morrison) Sawyer. In 1923, she graduated from Jonesport High School as class valedictorian and graduated from the University of Maine in 1927, where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi. In 1935, she started the Worcester Insurance Agency, which she owned and operated for 35 years, retiring in 1970. During that time, she covered most of Washington County and will be remembered by many friends and families. Mrs. Worcester was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Ladies Aid; chairman of many drives including the Red Cross, Salvation Army, Crippled Children Seals and March of Dimes. She was a member of the Jonesport School Committee for 15 years and served as secretary of the Federation of Women's Clubs for 15 years. She was a lifelong member of the Sawyer Memorial Congregational Church in Jonesport. She is survived by her beloved companion of 26 years, Frank B. Alley of Jonesport; one sister, Dorothy S.M. Shorey of Pittsfield; two nieces, Judith S. White of Yarmouth, Annie Sawyer MacMichael of Skowhegan; two nephews, Judge James E. MacMichael of Skowhegan, J.V. Sawyer II of Jonesport. Her hairdresser and special friends of many years, Don N. Alley and special friend of many years, Charles W. Woodward. She was predeceased by her husband, Homer F. Worcester in 1972; and her brother, Daniel J. Sawyer in 1968; and special grandnephew, John Martin White in 1975. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Sawyer Memorial Congregational Church, Jonesport, where a celebration of her life will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Jonesport. Those who wish may donate to the Greenwood Cemetery Society, care of Frances Carver, Jonesport 04649. Arrangements are under the care of Gardner-Hall Funeral Home, 6 Cooper St., Machias.
