My grnadfather was Thomas Solon Benson. He was born in Palermo, Me in 1830. He married Ann Eliza Gale in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I have no information on him from 1830 until 1862 when he joined the 3rd Mass. Volunteer cavalry. My father always said that his father was a doctor and he listed his occupation as "Physicion" when he joined the service but because o his lower rank it doesn't seem that he was a doctor during the war. He was, however, an orderly at the Contriband Hospital in Baton Rouge, La in 1862 - 1863. Any info on him would be greatly appreciated.
