After I passed on the information from you post to the rest of the family my sister talked to our mother, Virginia Murdy Cobb about the gravesite and here is what she had to say:
I was talking to Mom about this info and she said it was the other way around. Dad and she bought the burial plot when Dana died intending that they would be buried there as well. When they separated, Dad (with Mom's
agreement) sold the plot to Royce and Margarite. I think it was my parents who offered to share Dana's grave with Ruth and David's baby. Mom said they were both such small caskets that it was ok for them to share the same plot. Anyway Mom said she always like Uncle Royce and that he was a sweet man and she was comforted knowing Dana would rest beside the Millers.
Mom told me the following years ago:
Dana died within 24 hours of his birth. He was born with the top part of his skull missing. Years later my mother read an article about this type of birth defect being caused by exposure to a certain potato blight. She contacted the researcher who wrote the article and he confirmed that Maine potatoes had been hit with that blight at that time. Mom remembers that the farmers died their potatoes blue and dumped them in the rivers to dispose of them and as my parents were poor college students they did what all the other students did and went to the rivers at night to net free potatoes. Never suspecting there would be this kind of consiquence.
