The records that I have found are few.
On the 1850 census in Lincoln Co., Washingtion Dst. page 286-# 242.
Moses Pelton 55
Jane 47
James M. 19 Cooper so he would have been b. c 1831 so
could match your headstone date.
George W. 17 Cooper
Mary J. 10

Waldo Co Marriage records:
James M. Pelton and Ann Maria Harlow both of Camden 15 Nov 1852.
Liberty Maine marriage records.
Ephrim Boynton [a cooper] and Ann Maris Harlow married in 1859. She used the name of Harlow again so did she divorce James ?
1860 Maine census Palermo Epriam and Ann have two children James 3 and Ella 2 months. Was James the son of James Pelton?

Philip Boynton s/o Ephriam and Ann has on his death certificate that his mother was Ann Pelton.

James M. Pelton served in the Union Army 9th Maine inf. Co. G. In 1894 Mary J. Pelton widow of James filed for a pension.

The lastly the Pelton book says that James son of Moses was unmarried and died in MA in the 1870's.

This is the few bits of information I have on James Pelton. I hope you are able to untangle the information and find an answer.

thank you for replying.
